Golden Valley Says Search Continues for Next Police Chief
After considering two finalists for the role, the city of Golden Valley has reopened its search for its next police chief.
Last week, the city announced that its top two finalists for chief were Christopher Chrisostomidis, a police captain with the Savage Police Department, and Victor McDowell Jr., a deputy chief of police with the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police Department.
Both candidates introduced themselves to the community at a forum on March 11.
However, as of March 18, the job posting is back open and new candidates are being considered.
“We thank the candidates for their interest in Golden Valley and their time and effort throughout the interview process,” said city manager Noah Schuchman. “We are committed to make a hiring decision that supports both the team and the work ahead, and taking this additional time will help us do that. The posting is still open and we look forward to providing updates on next steps as soon as possible.”
GMP Consultants, an executive search firm, is continuing to assist the city in its search.
The new chief would succeed former Chief Virgil Green, who resigned last October following lengthy investigations into his conduct.
According to public documents, Green was accused of interfering with an internal affairs investigation. He was also accused of violating city policy for releasing unredacted body camera footage to television news media outlets during an investigation.
In an interview with CCX, Green pushed back on the allegations.
Assistant chiefs Alice White and Rudy Perez have led the department since Green’s resignation.
