Golden Valley Residents View Glenwood Avenue Project
A stretch of Glenwood Avenue in Golden Valley will be getting a facelift. Residents got a look at the proposed plans at an open house Thursday night. They could also submit their ideas on how they would like to see the corridor improved.
The project impacts the section of Glenwood Avenue from Highway 100 in Golden Valley to Thomas Avenue in Minneapolis. Hennepin County is partnering with the cities of Golden Valley and Minneapolis for the project. The plan is repave this section of Glenwood next year and make safety improvements.
“We believe there’s an opportunity to look at at reconfiguring the roadway, basically to add buffers and bike lanes. But there are some other safety things we’re going to try to do along the way,” said Bob Byers, tranportation planner with Hennepin County.
Byers said the most common complaint is speeding and safety of the roadway. He said they’ll narrow the roadway and install bike lanes to try to calm traffic. The bike lanes will also provide more distance between traffic and the sidewalks to increase the safety factor there.
The road resurfacing will not take as long as people might think and the impact should be minimal, Byers said.
