Golden Valley Police Investigating ‘Very Organized’ Car Theft
The Golden Valley Police Department is investigating after thieves stole seven cars from an auto shop.
According to police, employees arrived at Morrie’s Reconditioning Center, which is located in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue, early Tuesday morning to find the garage door had been destroyed.
Surveillance video shows thieves crashed a stolen SUV through an overhead garage door in the early morning hours of Aug. 15.
The suspects then stole another car and left the scene. They later returned with a larger group of suspects.
Upon returning, they stole seven cars, including a 2023 Maserati that, when new, lists for more than $100,000.
Thieves May Be Connected to Recent Golden Valley Cadillac Incident
“I would say these guys were very organized,” said Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green. “This wasn’t just something that, you know, they just popped up and did. So this was an organized group.”
Along with the Maserati, the thieves took a 2015 Honda CRV, a 2024 Subaru Outback, a 2023 Subaru Forester, a 2014 BMW 3 Series, a 2013 Chevy Camero and a 2022 Ford F-150.
Green said thieves had recently pulled a similar heist at a nearby Cadillac dealership.
“I think they might be connected, potentially,” Green said.
Green called the heist “very brazen.”
“They kind of ran around in a free-for-all to various vehicles within the place,” Green said. “Four, or five, or six different suspects.”
The suspects are likely stealing the cars to use in other crimes, Green said.
“I don’t think it’s so much individuals who are shipping these vehicles off to other parts of the state or outside of the state, or chopping these vehicles up,” he said.
Police are asking the public to assist in the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Golden Valley Police Department.
