Golden Valley Police Department Sees Staffing Increase
Staffing levels are on the rise at the Golden Valley Police Department.
According to Golden Valley Police Chief Virgil Green, the department only had nine sworn staff members in early 2023.
The city signed a contract with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s office to cover the police department’s day shift.
Now, Green told the city council he expects to have 16 officers, as well as three new patrol sergeants on staff by the end of spring.
“When I stood before you all a year ago, it was very challenging,” Green said. “I kept a very optimistic attitude about it, but seeing that there was light at the end of the tunnel.”
With the increase in staff, Green says the police department should be able to cover the day shift by September or October.
Meanwhile, the department’s investigative division is still short four detectives.
