Golden Valley Police Chief Asks Drivers to Watch for Deer
Golden Valley police have a warning for drivers: watch out for deer.
According to Golden Valle Police Chief Virgil Green, drivers in Golden Valley have hit eight deer since September.
Green said officers see most of those collisions around Highway 100 and Duluth St., a high-traffic area in Golden Valley.
The city put out out a warning alerting drivers about the possibility of a deer-car collision in that area.
“Those are some pretty high traffic areas, so we want to definitely encourage motorists to be more aware of potential for deer sightings. You don’t really see those deer signs that you kind of see out in the rural parts of the county,” Green said.
Green encouraged community members to watch out for deer as the sun goes down, and to slow down when they see one.
He said it is especially important not to swerve when deer enter to road. Rather, drivers should hold on to the steering wheel and to stay in their lane.
Green advises drivers that hit deer to stay in their car and call 911. Doing so minimizes the likelihood of another collision.
