Golden Valley Man Serenades His Neighborhood
On a beautiful night, you can find Joe Schmidt serenading his Golden Valley neighborhood with his cello.
“I like to play out on front stoop from time to time. During this difficult time with COVID, I’ve been doing it a lot more,” said Schmidt.
Schmidt started playing in school and only picked the cello because all the boys wanted to play the drums or trumpet.
“In a way, playing the cello is my voice,” said Schmidt. “For me, doing this gives me this kind of social connected aspect. People seem to enjoy it.”
People tell Schmidt they like to open their windows and listen to his music.
“I hope it takes them out of the kind of anxiety I feel a lot of times with constant COVID-19 coverage. You wake up in the morning and think about coronavirus and go to bed at night and think about coronavirus,” said Schmidt. “If [the music] can take people out of that thought process for only a moment, I think that’s meaningful.”
