Golden Valley Historical Society Celebrates 50 Years
It’s a celebration 50 years in the making: the Golden Valley Historical Society is celebrating a half century of history on Saturday.
The historical society is located inside “The Little White Church in the Valley,” the oldest building in the city.
Since 1974, the group has shared stories and preserved history in many different ways. Historical Society treasurer David Kuball says it’s important to keep that history alive.
“It is easy to think that a city like Golden Valley, being a suburb, has no history. Like Minneapolis has history. So this tells people it does,” Kuball said.
One look around the church-turned-museum tells many stories about the city’s history. At the door, people can look at a map of whose farm their homes are on today. There are many other exhibits, too, including Golden Valley High School memorabilia.
The chapel upstairs is still intact and Kuball said it’s still used for weddings a few times a year.
Saturday’s celebration begins at 11 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. Anyone is welcome. You can buy the popular vintage Golden Valley road signs for $15, a limited-time deal for the event. There will also be a number of booths and a viewing of Golden Valley’s “Our Town’s Story” documentary.
