Golden Valley Equity Task Force Reports After Year One
Golden Valley is working on being a more inclusive city. As we told you in January, part of that process was forming the Rising TIDES – that’s “Trust Inclusion Diversity Equality Social justice” – Task Force. Rising TIDES has met over the last year and Wednesday, they gave an update to the public on what they’ve been doing.
Some of their initiatives include finding ways to increase diversity on boards and city council. The group is also working to eliminate bias in city contracts. And they’re looking at approaches to talk about equity with the general community. The Rising TIDES chair thinks the city is setting an example by forming the task force.
“They have taken some really bold initial first steps in becoming a city that is putting their money where their mouth is in terms of inclusions,” says Joelle Allen. “And we are really shepherding the process of getting community engagement and making sure that all voices are heard.”
Allen describes the task force as fun. She says she feels the opportunity to partner with the city on inclusion is “special.”
The next Rising TIDES meeting is November 12 in the council conference room at City Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
