Golden Valley Church Aims to Pack One Million Meals
Volunteers flocked to Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley Friday, donating their time for a good cause.
Their goal is to pack one million meals in eight days for the nonprofit Feed My Starving Children. The volunteers are also trying to raise $220,000 to pay for the food.
Officials hope to get 5,000 volunteers to show up over the next week to work a two-hour shift. This is the 10th year Feed My Starving Children has put together these mobile food packs.
“You can scoop ingredients, which are vitamins, veggies, soy and rice,” said Dawn Dresser from Feed My Starving Children. “The reason they use rice is because rice is known all around the world. Everybody knows how to make rice. It’s an easy thing to have and they just put it into boiling water and they have their meal.”
Volunteering at Calvary Lutheran Church runs through Saturday, Jan. 27.
