Golden Valley Begins Construction To Provide Pedestrian Tunnel Near Perpich
Work began last week on a total reconstruction of the intersection of Highway 55 and Douglas Drive in Golden Valley, as the city will install a pedestrian underpass. City officials say it should be finished by late fall or early winter.
The tunnel will help those on foot and those who bike through the area on nearby rail trails to safely cross the intersection, which is very close to Perpich Center for Arts Education.
The city will also construct a roundabout to the immediate south of the intersection to help with traffic flow as it nears the school.
City, county, and state officials will host a groundbreaking for the project on Tuesday evening at Perpich.
City officials expect road closures on both Highway 55 and Douglas Drive to be necessary at some point in the fall and weekly e-mail alerts are going out to those who sign up for them through the city’s website.
