Ginis, Harris Win Golden Valley City Council Seats
Sophia Ginis and Maurice Harris were elected to the Golden Valley City Council on Tuesday night.
Harris received 39.1 percent of the votes cast, or 3,715 total votes. Ginis received 36.3 percent of the votes, or 3,453 votes. They were among three candidates in the race for two open seats.
Jean Kidd finished outside the top two spots needed to win election. Kidd finished at 23.8 percent or 2,263 total votes.
Harris and Ginis currently serve as council members. Harris was first elected to the council in 2019. He works as a research manager in real estate.
Ginis was appointed to the council in May 2023 to fill the vacancy left when Kimberly Sandberg resigned from her seat. She’s director of community affairs for Metro Transit.
Kidd is a former Minneapolis firefighter.
Meanwhile, the race for Golden Valley mayor was extremely close Tuesday night as polls closed. Roslyn Harmon held a 26-vote lead over Gillian Rosenquist.
