A Reason to Bike or Walk to Golden Valley Arts & Music Festival
Golden Valley officials say people attending the Arts and Music Festival should get there just about any way, except by car. That’s because the parking lots surrounding City Hall will all be taken up by the festival itself. Parking will be at a premium. And, as part of the city’s attempts to get people to walk and bike more, officials say cars should be the last resort.
“It’ll free up the roadways and reduce congestion,” says Golden Valley Planning Manager Jason Zimmerman. He adds, “it’s a healthier lifestyle. Getting people to be more social as they’re out. Interacting with people as they’re walking or biking.”
To encourage biking, instead of parking places for cars, the city will have a bike corral. The city understands that some folks absolutely must drive. Organizers say they can park at the nearby Calvary Lutheran Church or at the Public Library after 5 p.m.
City officials will survey patrons of the Arts and Music Festival to evaluate whether or not to continue encouraging alternate transportation in future events.
