Free Health Screenings Available During April at Hy-Vee
A new health initiative organized by Hy-Vee is helping local residents get vital information about their health in just one visit to the grocery store.
During the month of April local Hy-Vee stores are providing resources to shoppers focused on blood sugar and overall health. Events held by registered dieticians will center around virtual heath store tours, meal kit demonstrations and A1C screenings.
“A1C screenings not only can test not only for diabetes but pre-diabetes and many people may not even know that they have pre-diabetes,” says registered dietician Alea Fite. “It doesn’t hurt, if you have an opportunity like with what we’re doing here, to get your A1C checked. If you have diabetes in your family or something like that that’s even more reason to have it checked.”
Results are provided immediately following a test and Hy-Vee dietitians will then best assist in providing diet strategies to improve or maintain over all health. This initiative’s main goal is to guide customers in learning the basics on how to shop for balanced meals that best serve their health and to gain information about blood sugar management.
People can walk-in during pharmacy hours to test for conditions like pre-diabetes are available for free within the month of April. Participating stores include Robbinsdale and New Hope locations, and there are free virtual events to take advantage of too.
