Former Brooklyn Center Sears Sold To Developer
The last retail building tied to the former Brookdale Mall in Brooklyn Center has been bought out by a developer.
Located adjacent to Shingle Creek Crossing shopping center alongside Highway 100, the building has sat vacant since Sears closed in 2018.
Until recently, the building was owned by Transformco, a company that bought out much of the real estate once owned by Sears.
However, according to Transformco’s website, the Brooklyn Center building was sold on Jan. 30, 2025.
According to Hennepin County property records, the building is now owned by Scannell Properties.
Scannell is one of the main developers working on the former Prudential site in Plymouth.

The former Brooklyn Center Sears site has been sold to a developer.
Minnesota Department of Revenue real estate records haven’t been updated to show the price Scannell paid to acquire the property.
However, Hennepin County last assessed the property at $4 million.
Jesse Anderson, community development director at the city of Brooklyn Center, told CCX News he was aware of the sale. However, he wasn’t sure what Scannell is planning for the site.
“At this time, all we know is that they are looking at options for redeveloping the site,” he said.
At one time, developers were eyeing the site for a light industrial building.
However, those plans never materialized.
The Brooklyn Center City Council rezoned the property last year from a business mixed use area — which allows for limited residential uses alongside manufacturing or assembly — to a transit oriented development area — allowing townhomes, multi-family residential, and indoor amusement or banquet centers.
