Five Candidates Apply for Golden Valley Council Vacancy
Five candidates applied this week to fill a vacancy on the Golden Valley City Council.
Golden Valley Council Member Kimberly Sanberg recently resigned from the council after announcing plans to move abroad.
The council plans to fill her seat by appointment.
The application period closed May 7.
Applicants for the Vacant Council Seat
The five applicants for the vacant seat are Roger Bergman, Stephen Ettel, Sophia Ginis, Andy Johnson, and Stephen Merriman.
According to his application, Bergman is a 17-year member of the Golden Valley Open Space and Recreation Commission.
Johnson, who ran for the Golden Valley City Council in 2021, said he was a member of the Golden Valley Planning Commission from 2014-2022. He is a U.S. Navy veteran.
Ginis said she is a member of the Golden Valley Planning Commission and a former member of the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Merriman is an electrical engineer and former U.S. Navy officer. He has previously ran for state office.
The council will review applications through May 16.
Interviews with candidates will be conducted on May 17, and the council expects to appoint its newest member on May 19.
