Fire at Maple Grove Townhome Complex Contained to One Unit
Quick work by Maple Grove firefighters prevented a chimney fire from spreading to multiple units in a townhome complex on Upland Lane North.
Maple Grove firefighters say they received the call just after 11 p.m. Monday. When they arrived to the 9200 block, firefighters saw flames near the chimney of a fourplex unit.
Bill Abderhalden, Maple Grove’s deputy fire chief of prevention, said firefighters contained the fire quickly.
“The tenants next to the fire are always concerned that it’s going to grow beyond where it started, and their homes will be compromised, too,” Abderhalden said. “We were able to keep it confined to that one unit.”
The impacted unit wasn’t a total loss. Adderhalden said the resident of that unit decided to stay in the home.
While the fire’s origin is the space around the second-story chimney, the cause is still under investigation.
