FDA Recall: Distributor Gave Potentially Contaminated Goods to Local Shops
A Minneapolis-based distributor gave potentially contaminated goods to shops across Minnesota, including several in the northwest Minneapolis suburbs.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Gold Star Distribution sold hundreds of goods that could be contaminated due to unsanitary storage conditions.
Those conditions include “the presence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where medical devices, drugs, human food, pet food, and cosmetic products were held,” the FDA said. “These conditions create a significant risk that products held at the facility may have been contaminated with filth and harmful microorganisms.”
In the CCX News coverage area, four shops are impacted.
They include the EZ Stop Food Market, 7641 Zane Ave., Brooklyn Park; La Picante Market, 7914 Bass Lk. Rd., New Hope; Osari Trading LLC, 7308 Aspen Ln. N., Brooklyn Center; and Viengchan Oriental Market, 3050 Brookdale Dr., Brooklyn Center.
“Products held under insanitary conditions may become contaminated through contact with contaminated surfaces or exposure to airborne particulates associated with animal waste,” the FDA said. “Exposure to contaminated products can pose serious health risks to consumers, including the potential for bacterial contamination, which may result in illness or infection, including Salmonella.”
Drugs, Medical Devices, Food Subject to Recall
Included in the recall are drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and human or pet food products.
The FDA recommends that consumers destroy impacted products as soon as possible. Gold Star may provide refunds upon request.
Hundreds of products are being recalled — the list is 44 pages long.
Additional information on the recall is available on the FDA’s website.
