Familiar Face Sworn In As Osseo Police Officer
The city of Osseo swore in a familiar face into the police department this week.
Officer Brett Letourneau took the oath of office on Monday.
According to Osseo Police Chief Shane Mikkelson, Letourneau worked part-time as a police officer in Osseo for 15 years before leaving to work at a family business.
“At that time we were struggling with staffing and trying to figure out who we were going to hire,” Mikkelson said. “He came to me — it was kind of funny. I remember we were sitting out in front of the police department, right by the garages. And he goes, ‘what do you think about me coming back?’ And inside I was just jumping for joy. I was like, ‘oh my God, we can get somebody in here with experience.'”
Letourneau returned to the police department a year ago and recently completed his probationary period.
“He’s become an integral part of our department,” Mikkelson said.
Letourneau acts as the Osseo Police Department’s liaison to local schools.
“We get nothing but glowing reports from [the schools], as far as how he deals with the students,” Mikkelson said. “These kids really want ‘grandpa,’ — sorry but that’s what they call him — they want grandpa at the school.”
