FAIR School Crystal Students Sing Historic Music
February is African-American History Month. Students at FAIR School Crystal learned the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing” that was one of the most cherished songs of the Civil Rights Movement. The anthem didn’t start out as a song though. James Weldon Johnson wrote it as poem around the year 1900.
Students in Kim Keaton’s music class sang the song for CCX News, when we visited the school this week. We heard from fourth, fifth and seventh graders singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
