FAIR School Crystal Partners with Nonprofit to Increase Teacher Diversity
Xavier Manley who lives in Brooklyn Park is part of a nonprofit called Black Men Teach, that works to increase the number of Black men who teach elementary school.
Manley is a fellow teaching at FAIR School Crystal this summer, and plans to attend Tennessee State University this fall. He says teachers often don’t see the potential in students of color.

“They either see us as athletes, rappers, or dead,” said Manley.
He hopes to change that narrative.
“Because a Black person taught me about engineering, I can be an engineer. Because a Black person taught me about math, I can be a mathematician,” said Manley. “You learn the kids and the things they like and you try to build the lesson toward that.”
It’s a partnership that Robbinsdale Area Schools appreciates.
“We noticed how enthusiastic he was and how passionate he was about becoming a teacher and he has done a fantastic job with our scholars this summer,” said Tamuriel Grace with Robbinsdale Area Schools.
