Elm Creek Park Reserve Preps for Busy Winter Season
Three Rivers Park District is anticipating a busier winter than previous years because many people are choosing to stay away from indoor gyms. At Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove, enthusiasm for the outdoors shows no sign of slowing down.
“It’s first a mental escape. To get out of the house, to get some fresh air. Mentally and physically. So I think for their well being, it’s to me the number one reason,” explained Bruce Bolduan, supervisor of Elm Creek Park.
So far there’s only 1 kilometer of trail open for cross country skiers at Elm Creek Park Reserve. But more of the trails and other outdoor options will open up once there is colder weather and natural snow. There’s also another ski trail open at Hyland Park Reserve in Bloomington. That trail has 0.8 km open.
Due to COVID-19, the park has placed social distancing protocols and have reduced group activities.
Bolduan said snow tubing and cross country equipment will need to be reserved ahead of time.
