Elm Creek Fourth Grader Sells Lemonade for Library Books
Fourth-grader Megan James raised almost $300 for the Elm Creek Media Center by selling lemonade in her Maple Grove neighborhood.
“Megan has the biggest heart and is my little entrepreneur,” said Mary Hanson, Megan’s mom. “She started brainstorming how she can start to make a difference in her little world, and this is where she landed this time.”
Hanson says Megan combined her big ideas with her love for reading. Megan enjoys reading graphic novels and had an idea to raise money for the library last spring. This summer, Megan connected with the Elm Creek Elementary principal and together they came up with a plan.
Megan took a few days to prepare, made signs, and enjoyed beautiful weather for her lemonade stand.
Sales were steady on Saturday afternoon and she netted $290.15 for Elm Creek’s Media Center. Megan hopes the money will go to repair older books and purchase new ones. She made thank you notes and wrote a letter for the Media Center and her principal.
“She loves her elementary school and just wanted to give back in some way,” said Hanson.
What’s up for Megan next? She hopes to help out on Student Council during the school year.
