Edinburgh USA Golf Course Sets Record for Rounds Played
July was a good month for Edinburgh USA, so much so that the number of rounds of golf set a course record.
There were 7,813 rounds played, which is the most in the 35-year-history of the course.
“The course has been fantastic all year. I don’t think there are better greens in the metro,” said Ben Doran, a golfer who has a standing tee time every Wednesday at the course.
There are a few factors contributing to the popularity of the course this summer. The pandemic was a boon for golf courses, and staff say it’s impacted business this summer.
“We’ve seen a lot of people come out who maybe haven’t played in seven, eight, nine years. They play it and say ‘wow, I forgot how good it was,” said Don Berry, the club pro.
But weather was a factor too. Dry summers mean plenty of good weather for golf.
“The golf course was playing great. The weather was perfect with zero rain days, no delays or stoppages,” said Matt Olsonoski, superintendent at Edinburgh USA. “I think we’re getting a good rapport around the Twin Cities that this is a destination place to play again.”
