Early Voting Impacts Traditional Election Day
Many voters cast their ballots Tuesday, but for others, they cast their ballots days, if not weeks ago.
Brooklyn Park City Clerk Devin Montero said 36 percent of eligible voters in Brooklyn Park had already cast their vote before Tuesday, either by mail-in ballot or by coming to city hall to vote.
That’s higher than in previous non-pandemic years, when early voting has been in the 20 percent range.
In 2020, it was 53 percent, the first year of the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S.
Montero said there has been a lot of enthusiasm surrounding this year’s election that’s bringing voters out.
“This is a presidential year so people are excited and it’s going to be a historic election,” says Montero. “We could have our first female president, and then of course another returning ex-president coming back, so either way, people are excited to vote.”
Brooklyn Park City Hall opened its doors to early voters on Sept. 20.
