Dragonfly Collecting at Eastman Nature Center
Did you know dragonflies are a good indicator of how healthy a lake or pond is? You can learn more about these little predator insects at an event on Sunday, June 2, at Three Rivers Park District’s Eastman Nature Center.
“They’ll go out with a naturalist and they’ll fill you in on how to find them,” said Kim Nowicki with Eastman Nature Center. “[They’ll tell you] how to catch them and how to hold them so you’re careful and we don’t do any damage.”
Nowicki calls the dragonfly collecting “citizen science.” The data will be collected and turned over to the Minnesota Dragonfly Society.
Dragonflies don’t just hang around ponds and lakes, either. Nowicki says you can also find them in fields and woodlands.
The event goes from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 at the Eastman Nature Center.
