Doctors: Get Flu Shot This Year
The CDC says cases of the flu could arrive earlier and be more severe than normal, after a mild season last year. A doctor from North Memorial Health Hospital says the hospital is well-stocked with vaccines.
“It’s so important to get the flu shot this year and every year,” said Dr. Carolyn Ogland, North Memorial’s chief medical officer. “One of the main reason to get the flu shot is to avoid the serious complications that can come with the flu and they are unpredictable. So, healthy people can get very sick from that with pneumonia and even death. And we also know patients or people with chronic medical conditions influenza virus can make those conditions worse.”Ogland also says sometimes flu or influenza symptoms are much more severe than you may realize.
“One of the biggest differences about influenza versus the common cold. Oftentimes a common cold comes on very gradually where influenza comes on very suddenly so you are feeling sick quickly, your body aches are more severe,” said Ogland.
