Daphne Approved: Brooklyn Park’s Dog Parks
If you aren’t aware yet there are lots of dog parks in the northwest metro. The Brookdale Dog Park in Brooklyn Park happens to be Daphne and reporter Meredith Hackler’s favorite.
“This dog park has a little bit of everything,” says Brad Tullberg, Brooklyn Park’s facilities and parks manager. “It’s just a great place for dogs and owners to get out, exercise and experience an off-leash dog area.”
A Little Bit Of Everything
That little bit of everything is what makes Brookdale such a hot spot for dogs and their owners. A city bike trail connects to the dog park, which is completely fenced in. There’s a restroom for dog owners and the city provides bags for you to pick up after your pooch. There is also a water feature outside of the fenced-in area. It’s recommended you bring a jug of water for your pup in the off-leash area.
Once you let your pup off the leash they can run until they can’t anymore without any worry of them breaking free, because the park is fenced in. Brooklyn Park does have a fee to use their parks.
“We ask that there is a $3 fee for people that don’t have licensed pets,” said Tullberg. “They can easily buy an annual license through the city of Brooklyn Park for $10 and you get free access to any of our dog parks for the year.”
Nature Area Dog Park Getting a Makeover
Brookdale is the largest dog park of the two in the city. However, the other dog park in the Environmental Nature Area has plans to expand.
“Brooklyn Park and Three Rivers Park District are working together to redo the Mississippi Gateway Park with the Environmental Nature Area,” says Tullberg. “The Environmental Nature Area will be redeveloped at the same time and the dog park will be expanded at that time as well.”
On top of that, Brooklyn Park hopes to continue being as dog friendly as possible by potentially adding another dog park as they develop green space over the years.
