Crystal, Robbinsdale, New Hope Police Host Citizen’s Academy
The Crystal, Robbindale and New Hope Police Departments will accept applications to their citizen’s academy until Sunday, Aug. 30.
The free classes run six weeks, starting in September. The program is offered for adults who live within the three cities. Space is limited to 25 people due to COVID. Participants must commit to attend all six classes.
Crystal police Sgt. Justin Tourville said participants will learn various topics including patrol tactics, investigations, narcotics and court procedures.
“It’s very easy to have a perspective on the outside and not fully understand why we do some of the things we do,” said Sgt. Tourville. “On top of it ,what exactly we do on a daily basis. Not all we do is roll around in a police car answering calls for service. There’s a lot of behind the scenes things and this citizen’s academy gives our community members an opportunity to see those behind the scenes things.”
Citizen’s academy classes will be held Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m.
