Crystal Police Say Narcan Saved Nine People from Drug Overdoses
Crystal Police say the first year of having the antidote drug Narcan available to prevent overdoses led to saving lives.
The Crystal Police Department saved nine people from overdosing so far this year.
Officers started carrying Narcan last year to quickly revive people who overdose. The deputy police chief says Crystal is not immune to the opioid epidemic.
He reminds people not to be afraid of calling 911 if you are with someone who has overdosed.
“The laws written that if you’re calling, whether there’s drugs there or not, we will go there and we will take care of treating the patients. We don’t ask questions, we don’t deal with any of the drugs at that point, it’s a safe way that you’re getting help,” said Crystal Deputy Police Chief Brian Hubbard.
Crystal Police also opened a medication drop box in July. So far they have disposed about 20 pounds of unused medication.
