Crystal Holds First Junior Police Academy
More than 30 kids are learning about what it takes to become a police officer. The Crystal Police Department held its inaugural Junior Police Academy Monday and Tuesday.
Officers hope the program broadens young people’s views and interest in law enforcement. Participants went through a series of activities including K-9 demos, physical agility training and ride-alongs.
“Not only are these things cool for them to see and experience but it also shows the partnerships that we have within law enforcement and how it’s not just Crystal Police Department that serves our community, it’s also the state agency, the federal agency. and then our neighboring agencies as well,” explained Sgt. Justin Tourville with Crystal Police Department.
It costs $20 for the academy, however the police department has scholarships that may help families to overcome some of those costs.
