Crystal Man Attends U.N. Climate Summit
Eric Barry of Crystal had a special opportunity overseas recently. The University of Minnesota graduate student attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26 in Scotland.
“It was a really, really special opportunity for me,” said Barry, who heard messages from global leaders.
Barry is pursuing a graduate degree in science, technology and environmental policy. He attended with a delegation of other University of Minnesota students.
“You see this movement among young people where they’re asking the people in power, who are not young, to be taking action now that that’s right, that’s appropriate,” said Jessica Hellmann, a University of Minnesota professor who also attended the conference.
Barry says the event was inspiring and gave him ideas on how to focus his efforts.
“Having that perspective of what’s really going on on the international scale can really help me determine where I want to focus my efforts locally,” said Barry. “It will help me inform my colleagues, my classmates, my community members so we can attack it together.”
