Crystal Frolics Softball Shifts to Welcome Park
A staple of the Crystal Frolics is softball. Even with the Becker Park renovation, the games will go on at Welcome Park.
“The softball tournament is always a big draw,” said Frolics President Lynn Haney. “In the past it’s been one of the largest in the state.”
For decades some of the top softball teams in Minnesota have flocked to Crystal. Pure power is often on display as players routinely muscle balls out of the yard.
“The softball tournament is still going on,” Haney said. “But we’ve got two fields here at Welcome and we’re utilizing other parks in Crystal.”
Softball has been a Frolics hallmark and is something that puts the festival on the Twin Cities map.
“Without the softball tournament,” Haney said, “there would not have been a Crystal Frolics.”
