Crystal Cove Aquatic Park to Close for Repairs Through 2024
Crystal residents may have to travel out of town to find an outdoor pool next year.
The Crystal Cove Aquatic Center, located at at 4848 Douglas Dr. N., will be closed for construction in 2024.
The pool’s closure was approved by the Crystal City Council on Dec. 19.
City officials say they discovered a significant leak in the main pool container in 2018.
In a memo to the city council, John Elholm, Crystal’s recreation director, wrote that a calking job was “marginally successful” at plugging the leak.
A consulting firm assessed the pool for leaks in 2021 and recommended reconstruction of the main pool container.
The Minnesota Legislature allocated $2.3 million to the project during the last legislative session. The city received another $300,000 from a Hennepin County youth sports grant program.
The engineering plans to reconstruct the pool are approximately 75 percent complete. Those plans are expected to be completed early in 2024.
The Crystal Cove Aquatic Center was originally constructed in 1968.
Residents of Crystal, Golden Valley and New Hope all receive resident admission prices at the New Hope Aquatic Park.
