Crest View Elementary Celebrates 60 Years in Brooklyn Park
It’s a special week at Crest View Elementary in Brooklyn Park. Staff, students and families are celebrating the school’s 60-year anniversary.
Throughout the week students have participated in special activities including scavenger hunts and tree and flower plantings.
“To celebrate the building is one thing, but what I really want to focus on is celebrating each other and coming together as a community especially having so many interruptions in instruction. It’s been a challenging year for everybody,” said Crest View Elementary Principal Shawn Stibbins.
Families of Crest View students are invited Friday to celebrate the school’s history. Student artwork will be displayed on windows. Crest View artifacts will also be set up inside.
Also part of the week’s festivities, for the first time, the school will bury a time capsule that contains items that reflect the challenging year.
“A lot of it is you can say is related to unfortunately the COVID-19, the coronavirus that everybody is talking about. I personally put a mask in as a school nurse,” said Mary Newman, Crest View’s nurse. “There’s also news articles, different things that we can put in there.”
The time capsule will be removed 50 years from now.
