COVID-19: Crystal Police Say Staying Safe Means Staying Calm
COVID-19 is impacting everyone in the northwest suburbs, including first responders. CCX News caught up with Crystal Deputy Police Chief Brian Hubbard to find out what residents should do during the pandemic.
“Really what we want folks to know is this is a time to remain calm,” says Hubbard. “We need to be diligent, but we need to stay calm in this crisis that’s evolving.”
Hubbard says people should calmly think through their plans. Take care of loved ones and practice social distancing.
While some people can hunker down and work from home to avoid COVID-19 exposure, police cannot. How are they keeping safe, while continuing to answer 911 calls?
“We are making sure that we have our gloves and our masks so that our folks stay healthy,” said Hubbard. “Our concern is that we get an illness that comes through our police department and we’re short-staffed in order to respond to those 911 calls.”
Hubbard says the COVID-19 outbreak is uncharted territory for everyone. The Crystal Police Department is trying to think about all possible contingencies and plan for them.
