Courage Kenny in Golden Valley Expands Fitness Classes with New Studio
Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute is opening its doors to the community even more than before with a new studio space.
Fitness instructors showed off the new studio this week. Its located on the second floor of the institute’s Golden Valley building.
Neighbors were able to come in and try out a short fitness class on Wednesday.
Aquatics Fitness Manager Jen Steele said people are really seeking each other, and this is one place people can find that.
“We noticed that people are coming back, and it’s stronger than it was before. That speaks to that need for community, that need for belonging, that need for a sense of engagement with peers and others that may walk a different life,” Steele said.
The studio has a variety of activities for group fitness, focusing on different needs in the community. There’s some strength and balance training, courses for post-stroke wellness and activities like cardio drumming. The activities are all adaptable, depending on peoples’ individual needs.

Students practice exercises in the sample fitness class at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. Classes involve chairs, and are adaptable to different abilities and needs.
This adds more to the facility’s repertoire of fitness classes. One member is already a part of the aqua therapy classes. She said fitness through Courage Kenny is empowering.
“You don’t feel self-conscious here. And more often than not, you feel empowered, and you end up doing more than you thought you could,” Mary Furth said. “It’s such a valuable resource and we are so lucky to have it.”
A $25,000 donation from The Christopher Reeve Foundation, along with a contribution from a private donor, made this new studio possible.
Fall classes begin in October, and registration opens on Monday, Sept. 29. You don’t have to be a Courage Kenny patient to take part. Visit CK Active for more information.
