Brooklyn Boulevard Construction Nears Completion
The County Road 81/Brooklyn Boulevard road construction project is progressing. Soon it will be smooth sailing for drivers on those two major thoroughfares in Brooklyn Park.
“We are trying to wrap up phase 2A of the project which is from 73rd all the way up to Brooklyn Boulevard,” said Hennepin County project manager Stan Lim. “We anticipate wrapping this up here in about two weeks when we can open up Brooklyn Boulevard as well as County Road 81 all the way up to Brooklyn Boulevard from 694.”
Brooklyn Boulevard is a busy road and a hub for business. Construction and COVID 19 have taken a toll on shops and stores. Lim hopes they got through the hardship and that things will improve.
“I know COVID 19 certainly played a role in the amount of traffic we got,” Lim said. “During construction there was a lot less cars and vehicles on the road which enabled us to be able to work more efficiently.”
Improvements Boost Curb appeal for County Road 81 and Brooklyn Boulevard
When the road crews finish, there will be many improvements on both County Road 81 and Brooklyn Boulevard. The curb appeal is going to be noticeable.
“We will have an added traffic lane on north and south bound County Road 81,” Lim said. “We will have upgraded signal lights. We will also have a bunch of new trails that are part of the Crystal Lake regional system, connecting from a previous project at 694 all the way up to 85th Avenue.”
Other upgrades include, connection to side streets and frontage roads, crosswalks, and improved storm water systems. Crews will also put in new curbs, gutters and medians.
According to Hennepin County this will make the road safer, provide better traffic flow and reduce congestion and delays.
