Contaminated Soil Found in Winnetka Pond
After crews dredged Winnetka Pond over the winter, they found out that some of the soil was contaminated. Disposing of the contaminated soil increased the price of soil removal more than previously thought, but the total price of the entire project still came in under budget.
Crews increased the depth of Winnetka Pond to more than six feet over the winter months.
The Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission and the City of Crystal both contributed to the project.
Engineers do not know the source of the contamination or when the soil became contaminated.
