Cold Weather Brings Brooklyn Park Auto Shop a Bump in Business
The holiday travel season is nearly upon us. If you haven’t yet, now’s a good time to take a look at your car. Auto shops, like Victory Auto in Brooklyn Park, are seeing a steady stream of vehicles and a busy parking lot.
“Our overall goal is to make everyone’s car as safe as possible, because we have to drive on that road, too,” said Matthew Myrman, the shop’s manager.
Technicians get to work on all kinds of vehicle concerns. Most of them, though, are cold weather-related. Some particular common issues are flat tires and dead batteries. Myrman said batteries, especially, can catch people by surprise.
“They’re not meant to withstand cold when they are low and not charged properly, so that does cause them to drain down,” Myrman explained.
These issues are common around the holidays, as temperatures dip and people take the the roads.
But the traffic levels at the shop can be unpredictable — especially when customers don’t stay on top of their car’s concerns. He cites one crash he saw on slick roads this morning.
“Oftentimes, you know, you can’t predict for ice all the time,” Myrman said. “But, if you’ve got the right tires, and you’ve been maintaining your car correctly, it does make it a lot easier.”
Victory’s area manager Jordan Matt said he’s noticed that business is trending up.
“People want to get their cars fixed up so they can get out of town,” Matt said.
Before you hit the road for the holidays, Matt said not to ignore the check engine light — and take care of problems quickly.
“Get it checked out right away before it becomes worse. Then, that way, it turns into more of a preventative situation than an emergency situation,” Matt said.
He said still, no matter how busy the shop is, Victory staff still try to take people with emergencies in day-of.
