Coffee and Cats: Café Meow Coming to New Hope
A Minneapolis café where you can also adopt cats plans to open a second location in New Hope this spring. Café Meow plans to open in the Winnetka Commons.
“The concept’s always been based around getting more cats into homes,” said Jessica Burge, café owner. “With the pandemic, we’ve had many people come in and say this just offered them that space to relax and unwind.”
Burge opened Cafe Meow in 2018 on Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. Customers can enjoy their favorite drink while hanging out with cats and possibly adopting one too. So far, nearly 500 cats have been adopted through the efforts of Cafe Meow.
“People come in on the weekends and they want to get into the cat lounge and we have to turn them away,” said Burge.
So, Cafe Meow is opening a second location.
“The northwest suburbs is where we wanted to be,” said Burge. “It’s a larger space for more people to be able to visit at a time so hopefully we’ll be able to get more people in who can potentially adopt or who just want to hang out with the cats.”
Customers like Alexa Meland says it’s also a place to consider if adopting a cat is right for you.
“I enjoy interacting with cats because I’ve been around my friends’ cats, but I feel like this is really a good tester if you want to get a cat,” said Meland.
