Chalkfest Once Again Transforms Maple Grove’s Main Street This Weekend
Main Street in Maple Grove will once again become a giant canvas for artists from around the world this weekend for the city’s annual Chalkfest.
The two-day event will culminate with dozens of chalk drawings adorning the street, which will be closed for the event.
“After Sunday night, everything gets power washed away, and it’s all a memory,” said organizer Shawn McCann. “It’s kind of like going to a concert. You remember that concert for the rest of your life, even though it only lasted for a few hours.”
Chalkfest is an opportunity for people to come to Maple Grove to shop at stores and eat at restaurants, all while seeing artwork come together quickly.
“A lot of art you see in galleries and stuff, you never get to see the process, and so with this art form, you get to see from the beginning to the end,” said McCann. “You get to see how weather affects it. You get to see the interaction the artists have, and you really get inspired, too.”
Chalkfest is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday on Main Street in Maple Grove.
