CenterStage [Act 8]: “Once Upon A Time” at Maple Grove Senior High
Spring time at Maple Grove Senior High means it’s time for their annual musical review. For the past eight years, they’ve produced “CenterStage productions.”
This year Maple Grove Senior High’s spring musical extravaganza CenterStage:[Act 8] has a story telling theme titled “Once Upon A Time.” Cast members visit three different worlds and tell a story through song and dance. “This is a fun show because we get to tell three different stories throughout the show,” says cast member Kirsten Ericsson.”We start off with an ocean and a jungle and then we go into more of like a high school setting.”
Students make CenterStage [Act 8] happen
The numbers are grand, but none of it would happen without another small army of students working behind the scenes. Hailley Lower is in charge of the paint crew and says everything that is on the set had to be built and painted. “We’re all a part of the planning process,” explains Lower. “We hear about what’s going to be built. Sometimes we help the kids build the different structures and sets. Then we figure out the color pallet, get supplies, and paint it all.”
Lower is also on the “run crew.” Just like the name sounds, that crew is in charge of making sure all the pieces on the set are where they should be during the run of the show.
The band during the production provides some very good sounds. “We rehearsed a lot together,” says Calvin Caron, who plays bass. “For a couple months twice a week. Then we went to three times a week. Then for the last half a month it’s been everyday, except for Sundays.”
Everyone’s rehearsing has paid off and “Once Upon A Time” is a crisp and energetic show.

CenterStage [Act 8]:“Once Upon A Time” is onstage tonight and Saturday night and next Thursday through Saturday in the Maple Grove Senior High Theater.
