Brooklyn Park Seeks Additional Water Tower To Support Development
City officials in Brooklyn Park are asking the state legislature to help build a new water tower, saying it’s critical to future development plans.
The new 2-million gallon water tower would be located near the intersection of Highway 169 and 101st Avenue.
It’s part of the plans to develop about 700 empty acres in the northwest portion of the city.
Marc Culver, Brooklyn Park’s city engineer, told CCX News that new development can’t move forward without new water infrastructure.
“We’re getting to the point where our water pressures are just — we’ll probably have to stop allowing development very soon until we get that water tower in there, because we just won’t be able to provide safe fire pressure, fire support pressure up there.” he said.

City officials in Brooklyn Park are asking the legislature to help build a new water tower, saying it’s critical to future development plans.
Rep. Samantha Vang (DFL-Brooklyn Center) is sponsoring a bill that would give the city $12 million to build the new tower.
Culver said there’s a host of other infrastructure costs on the way as the city develops this empty land.
“We really just need to offset some of that cost so that the burden of development, the cost of development isn’t so high and it attracts more businesses into the area,” he said.
In addition to a water tower, the city says it needs to install three new water mains.
These 16-inch water mains would be buried under Highway 169 and Highway 610.
They’re estimated to cost $4.5 million.
