Brooklyn Park Retail Center Hit with Another Closure
Several businesses in Brooklyn Park’s Starlite Center area are closing in mid-November. CCX News reported last month about the closure of Cub. Now, CCX News has confirmed the upcoming closure of the Brooklyn Park Petco store.
Meanwhile, a representative confirmed that Chipotle is staying at the Jolly Lane location, though the two storefronts next to it — Jimmy John’s and Caribou Coffee — shuttered earlier this year. Those who live and work in the area are noticing the change.
“It’s definitely a bummer,” said Sam Iverson, who works nearby. “I went to the Jimmy John’s quite a few times, and the Cub a lot. So the convenience going away is definitely going to be a bummer.”
The Cub grocery store is set to close its doors on Nov. 16. Shelves are already clearing out inside the store, with many products heavily discounted.
For Apako Movei, who lives close by, the closures are a concerning sign of the economic times. Though the Brooklyn Park Target remains open, he feels he’ll need to go elsewhere for groceries.
“If I want to buy something, I’ll have to drive all the way to Maple Grove. It’s too much,” Movei said.
Brooklyn Park Petco to close Nov. 20
Petco’s closure will come just four days after Cub’s on Nov. 20. In a statement, the company said it is constantly evaluating its real estate portfolio. It encouraged customers to travel to its Maple Grove location on Wedgewood Lane or to shop online.
“We value the relationships we’ve built with pet parents in the Brooklyn Park community and look forward to continuing to serve them at our nearby location,” the statement said, in part.
“I’ve got a car, so it won’t affect me as much as other folks around here,” Iverson said.
