Brooklyn Park Residents Want to Adopt Sister City in Somalia
Brooklyn Park will begin studying whether to enter into a sister-city relationship with a city in Somalia. A group of residents approached Brooklyn Park about a possible partnership with the city of Garowe.
Brooklyn Park already has a sister-city relationship with Kakata, Liberia.
Mutual goals identified for that relationship were:
- •to encourage Liberians to greater inclusion and responsibility for the welfare of Brooklyn Park, by increasing engagement and volunteerism
- •to formulate opportunities for city officials and residents to further explore and experience Liberian culture
- •to create an atmosphere which strengthens economic development and community engagement•to nurture a municipal partnership to help creatively learn, work and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural, educational, business, leadership development, professional and technical training and projects
The city council will discuss the issue in a work session.
