UPDATE: Brooklyn Park Police Release Video of Hit-and-Run Vehicle That Struck Child
Brooklyn Park police are asking for help from the public to find a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run Wednesday morning. On Thursday, police released video of the vehicle during the incident.
According to police, around 8:40 a.m. on Oct. 2, a 12-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle near 63rd and Boone avenues. She was crossing the street to get to her school bus stop.
The driver did not stop during the incident, which resulted in damage to the vehicle’s passenger-side mirror, police said.
Police said the 12-year-old was transported to the hospital, but is expected to recover from her injuries.
The suspect is a white female of an unknown age. Police do not believe there were any passengers in the vehicle.
Investigators are searching for a 2015-2019 Hyundai Sonata or Genesis, painted white, with the passenger-side mirror missing.
“We have reason to believe that either the person lives in the area or they were heading to a destination in the area,” Brooklyn Park police Inspector Elliot Faust told CCX News on Thursday.
Faust said he doesn’t see a scenario where the driver did not know she hit a person.
“When we’re sending our kids out to the bus stop, it’s a parent’s worst nightmare to hear that they didn’t make it,” said Faust. “So we need to do everything we can to make sure kids are headed to the bus stop of all places.”
