Brooklyn Park Police Investigate Multiple Vehicle Thefts, Robberies
The Brooklyn Park Police Department investigated a spate of vehicle thefts over the weekend where suspects fled the scene as officers arrived. The department is also investigating two weekend robberies where victims were pistol-whipped.
Vehicle Thefts
According to the police department, officers on patrol spotted two people in a stolen vehicle driving near 73rd and Zane at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17.
As officers saw the vehicle, the driver pulled into an apartment complex. Both the driver and a passenger ditched the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
Officers searched the area for the two suspects with the help of a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter. The search was unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, officers were patrolling in the early morning hours of Nov. 19 when they spotted a vehicle on the road that was reported stolen. Officers were in the 7400 block of West Broadway when they saw the vehicle at 3 a.m.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver fled to the 7100 block of Zane and struck another vehicle. The suspect then drove into oncoming traffic.
Officers terminated their pursuit and offered aid to the vehicle that had been struck. They found that none of the passengers has sustained injuries in the crash.
The investigation into the incident remains open.
Armed Robberies in Brooklyn Park
According to Brooklyn Park police, a man was robbed outside his home on Friday, Nov. 17, after returning from the store.
Brooklyn Park police were dispatched to the 8200 block of Brunswick Avenue on a report of an assault and robbery.
The victim told officers he was getting out of his car when he was approached by two males. One of the men brandished a handgun and pistol-whipped the victim.
The two assailants stole some of the victim’s property and money.
Police with K9s searched the area but did not find any suspects.
The victim was treated for moderate injuries at the scene of the crime.
The following day, Nov. 18, two robbery victims called police from the Winner Gas station at Brookdale Drive and Humboldt Avenue to report a robbery.
Two victims told police they had been robbed by two men while walking in the 7600 block of Humboldt.
Both victims reported being pistol-whipped. The robbers stole the victim’s cell phones and fled the scene in a black sedan.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
