Brooklyn Park Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Shooting of Teen Outside Market
Brooklyn Park police arrested an 18-year-old this weekend in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy.
The Columbia Heights man was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on May 13 for second-degree murder. Charges are pending.
According to the Brooklyn Park Police Department, officers were dispatched at 9:46 p.m. on May 12 to a report of a shooting at the Quick African Market, located at 5700 Brookdale Dr.
Responding officers found a 16-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds. They rendered medical aid and transported him to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Officers searched the area but did not immediately find any suspects.
The following day, police arrested the 18-year-old in connection with the case. They are not searching for any additional suspects.
The market has been a hotspot for crime in the past. In 2021, 16-year-old Varney Kennedy Jr., of Golden Valley, was fatally shot outside the market.
