Brooklyn Park Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Fatal Birthday Celebration Shooting
A Brooklyn Park man will spend more than 25 years in prison for fatally shooting a man at a family gathering.
Lue Chang, 32, recently pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Hennepin County District Court.
He shot and killed 34-year-old Nichanon Kittikroekphon of Coon Rapids in September. It happened at a home in the 8400 block of Adair Avenue on a Saturday evening.
According to the criminal complaint, about 30 people were at the home to celebrate a birth in the family on Sept. 21.
Witnesses told police that Chang fired multiple gunshots at Kittikroekphon.
When he fired, a small boy, approximately 2-years-old, was standing about a foot away, the complaint said.
Witnesses took the gun from Chang, who said he’d shot Kittikroekphon “because he disrespected me.“
Kittikroekphon later died in the hospital.
According to Brooklyn Park police, Kittikroekphon and Chang were related.
Chang was sentenced to 306 months — or 25.5 years — in the correctional facility in St. Cloud.
He’ll get credit for 87 days already served.
