Brooklyn Park Man Federally Indicted After Car Crash
A Brooklyn Park man was federally indicted after a car crash this summer killed five young women.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, 28-year-old Derrick Thompson was inducted for possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and illegal gun possession.
This June, Thompson was allegedly driving 95 miles-per-hour in a rented SUV when he ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle.
Five young women, including a 20-year-old from Brooklyn Center, were killed in the crash.
Following the crash, police searched Thompson’s car and found more than 2,000 fentanyl pills. They also found MDMA, cocaine, and a loaded pistol.
Thompson has prior felony convictions and is not allowed carry a firearm.
Meanwhile, Thompson is facing 10 counts of criminal vehicular homicide in Hennepin County District Court.
Thompson is the son of former state Rep. John Thompson.
